ENGELE
Chambre d’agriculture des pays de Loire

Directly measuring the consequences of technical choices on the environmental performance of the operation is not easy. It is necessary to integrate many parameters and various scales. Engèle (Environment and Management of ELEvage) is a simulator which helps to take into account this complexity while measuring in real time the consequences of its choices. The environmental assessment is accessible at any time during the game. Real simplified assessment and life cycle analysis are carried out directly, as the characteristics of the operation are entered. A way to learn while having fun.

Objectives

  • The objective of this tool is to make learners aware of the consequences of their technical choices (breeding, crops) on the environmental impact of their operation.

Solution:

  • Development of a tool intended for both education and environmental advisers who provide training with breeders. The results released relate to nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium balances, as well as gas emissions (ammonia, greenhouse gases) and life cycle analysis.
  • Designed in a 3D environment, this simulator leaves the possibility for the trainer to propose different scenarios to the learners. For example, what solutions do you propose to improve a degraded environmental situation? A certain number of fixed parameters are determined: type of breeding fattening fattening, element retention factors (N, P, K, Cu and Zn) according to the weight of the animals, the volume of effluents produced, the emission factors gases linked to the mode of management of effluents (slurry, litter, etc.), exports by crops (Corpen). All the other parameters can be adapted by the player: farm size, technical parameters, feed characteristics, UAA, crops, storage and management of effluents). A dashboard helps in real time to see the consequences of these choices on various criteria such as fertilization or greenhouse gas emissions.

Technologies:

  • The application was developed under Unity 3D and had to work on an old computer park
